As we approach a month to Reformation Day (Halloween), I wanted to share one of my favorite hymns to sing because of its vigor and vitality. Unless you grew up Lutheran, you probably didn’t grow up singing this version of A Mighty Fortress is Our God. I submit that this version below is closer in text and tune to what Martin Luther wrote in his setting of Psalm 46. Listen, download the PDF, and try it at your house, church, or school.
There is a detailed explanation of why many protestants outside of Lutheranism have not learned this version, but that’s not the focus of this post. Instead, I wanted to highlight a hymn that you want to add to your list to sing through regularly.1
