Recapping a Wonderful Week

2022 Jubilate Deo Summer Music Camp in West Monroe, LA

2022 Music Camp Went Very Well

The above video is a short recap of last week’s ninth annual Jubilate Deo Summer Music Camp in West Monroe, LA. This year we had over 260 campers register. The camp’s goal each year is to grow these students’ skills and enjoyment of music and singing. We gather Kodály (pronounced CODE-eye) music teachers and choir directors to help prepare a themed concert from our conductor, Dr. David R. Erb, who teaches at New Saint Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho.

This year’s theme was centered on Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, which he wrote in the 1960s for the Chichester Cathedral summer music festival. It is a challenging and rewarding piece to sing. The 9th-13th grade students had a great time preparing the work. Dr. Erb had the younger campers sing the same Psalms that Bernstein featured in different musical and language settings. What resulted was a full concert all themed around the following Psalms: Psalm 108:2, Psalm 100, Psalm 23, Psalm 2:1-4, Psalm 131, and Psalm 133:1.

Re-Watch the Concert Online

Folks were moved to tears at the sheer beauty of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms to see how these young people could put that together in a week. Here are some more pictures of concert day:

We are planning to have our tenth annual camp next summer during the same last week of June. We’d love to have you join us. We have folks who come from across the country.
