For those of you who follow my Hymn Highlights periodic feature here on Musically Speaking, it may be no surprise that I’ve been working on a second hymnal project. This project is geared towards schools. We are calling it “Let Joy Resound: A Singing School Hymnal,” and it will ship, Lord willing, by July 2024.
Why Another Hymnal?
This project was created to fulfill the need for schools to have an accessible collection of hymns and psalms that can help foster a singing school where songs resonate throughout the chapel, halls, lunchrooms, and elsewhere in the school day. While we want to train our students to be fully musically literate during their school years, we also want to give them a body of songs that can produce a singing school culture. Not all hymn tunes and texts are equally accessible and effective in producing this goal.
The hymnal will be approximately 250 pages, with a beautiful hardcover and durable sewn binding, shipping in July 2024.
