Great episode, Jared. And as a Canadian I especially thank you for your mention of Leonard Cohen, one of my all-time favourite artists.

As you may know, the vocals for Cohen's last album, 'You Want It Darker', were apparently recorded from his deathbed. So his characteristic gravel descends even further to that of a dying man. He died just 17 days after it was released. Lyrically, the album is largely him singing to Jesus, expressing Cohen's long-standing attraction to the figure of Christ, and also his doubts and hesitations. (see especially the track 'Treaty').

Also, the vocals on Dylan's Christmas album ('Christmas in the Heart') are at times so comically bad that it adds something to the festivity of the season and reminds me that even when we go through broken or strained Christmas seasons, we can still expect little moments of joy and relief.
