Above is a video excerpt from the 2022 Spring Concert from my Delta Youth Chorale in West Monroe, Louisiana. This seemed to be the crowd-pleaser piece from the concert. It is a composition by a famous modern composer/arranger, Shawn Kirchner. It features our 7th-12th non-auditioned group. Soloists were Archer Wilkins, Layla Booth, and a trio of Evelyn Myers, Emmalyne Eley, and Laura Belle Hilleke. The piece was dedicated to my mother, Suzan Richey. She had heard the work several years ago and had been gently nudging me to program that piece for one of my DYC concerts. After my father’s death this past January, I thought it would be fitting to let this song preach to us all about the hope of the resurrection.
The concert also featured music by J. S. Bach, William Byrd, Henry Purcell, and others, with the students singing works in five different languages.
The Delta Youth Chorale will kick off its tenth year on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Folks can register online now through the second week of the semester.
